Many osCommerce users may have become disappointed after 2004 brought no new release. The newest version: 2.2 Milestone 2 is dated July 12, 2003. Last year there were many upgrades and additions to the documentation and knowledgebases. It’s almost been two years and many projects have been created on this version; most of these, however are inactive projects that were never meant to be developed any further. You’ll find a lot of projects started in such a manner on SourceForge.

Anyway, for all you osCommerce users there’s good news: the team has reorganized and will continue development. In the meantime I stumbled across a very nice project based on osCommerce: CastleKart. It includes many contributions that were published for osCommerce like product cross promotion, “Two Buys” (two selected products at a lower price), much nicer default theme and administration. You might want to download it and see if it worth upgrading!
